Virginia Society of Landscape Designers - Professional Landscape and Garden Design in Virginia

The Virginia Society of Landscape Designers is a statewide non-profit association of professionals dedicated to providing you with the finest in landscape design services and help in the selection of appropriate and interesting plant materials and hardscapes.

We serve both residential and commercial clients, from the smallest townhouse to large estates, and work with both new construction as well as garden renovations. Our expertise encompasses everything from patio containers to water gardens, as well as the wide variety of urban, suburban, lakeside and country landscapes. Many of our members also provide consulting, maintenance and /or installation services.

Founded in 1960, the VSLD promotes the professional competence of its members through statewide certification standards, continuing education, and research. The organization’s goals include the beautification of Virginia’s spaces, the enhancement of the relationship between man, architecture and the environment, and the promotion of professionalism in the application of design.

The certification program ensures that you, the consumer, are dealing with a designer who has demonstrated a high level of skill in areas including, but not limited to, design appropriateness for the site and neighborhood, correct use of scale, form, texture & color, maintenance considerations, plant suitability, graphical communication and plant & installation specifications. Certified members are required to renew their certified status annually by completing a minimum number of Continuing Education hours during the year.

We encourage student membership and provide mentoring for all applicants to help them achieve Certification status. The VSLD also provides scholarships for students wishing to focus on Landscape Design as a profession.
